Prim Watch Takes Flight: A Journey to the Stratosphere

We are thrilled to announce that Spacemanic is part of a remarkable project that blends the rich history of Czech watchmaking with cutting-edge technology and scientific exploration. In collaboration with the observatory in Ústí nad Labem, Gallery Artslimit, Observatory and Planetarium Prague, and the iconic Czech watchmaker PRIM, we are set to launch a special edition of Prim watch into the stratosphere using a high-altitude balloon.

The project, named Primdovesmiru.cz, seeks to revive the legacy of Czech watchmaking while advancing scientific research through a stratospheric mission. The centerpiece of the project is the exclusive PRIM Tycho Brahe Kosmos watch, designed to honor both the scientific and watchmaking traditions of the Czech Republic. This watch features engraved star positions from 1949 – a symbolic year marking a significant era in Czech watchmaking tradition.

Spacemanic will handle the technical aspects of ensuring the watch’s safe ascent into the stratosphere. The high-altitude balloon will carry the watch over 30 kilometers above the Earth's surface, subjecting it to extreme conditions, which will serve as a testament to the durability and craftsmanship of the watch as well as the technology behind it.

This project is closely tied to the restoration of the Ústí nad Labem Observatory, which was founded in 1929 and once served as a hub for astronomical and meteorological research. Unfortunately, the observatory’s activities were disrupted in 1945, and it remained dormant for 79 years. Thanks to the efforts of many dedicated volunteers, the restoration of the observatory is now underway, intending to revive its original mission of scientific observation and public education.

Primdovesmiru.cz is one of the flagship initiatives that aims to restore the observatory's role in scientific exploration. Through partnerships with renowned Czech and Slovak entities, including Spacemanic, the project has garnered national attention and local community support, furthering its progress and impact.

The project will culminate in the auction of the PRIM Tycho Brahe Kosmos watch, which will end on September 22, 2024. Proceeds from the auction will go towards funding further restoration efforts of the observatory and enhancing its scientific activities. This auction presents a unique opportunity for collectors and horology enthusiasts to own a piece of history that has literally touched the sky.

Spacemanic is proud to support a project that not only celebrates history and science but also demonstrates how innovative technology can inspire future generations of scientists and engineers. As Daniela Jović, CCO of Spacemanic, aptly put it: “We are proud to contribute to launching these watches into the stratosphere. The restoration of the observatory is a project with deep significance, and we fully support it.”

The Primdovesmiru.cz project exemplifies how the past and future can be seamlessly intertwined, showcasing the incredible potential of technology to ignite interest in science and education.
